Milo Center, Yates County, in this state, on Aug. 24th, 1834. When
she was but six weeks of age, her parents removed to Portageville,
Livingston County, where her girlhood was passed. She came to this
town in 1858 to keep house for her grandfather, James Mann, who
resided on the farm now occupied by Fred R Meyers.
She was married
to E. M. Hungerford on Feb. 5th, 1862, at Portageville, the ceremony
being performed by Rev. E. W. Kellogg of that place.
The couple made
their home for many years on the homestead farm of Farmersville
where the write has many times enjoyed their generous hospitality in
a household rendered doubly pleasant by the loving care and pleasant
disposition of the mother.
Twenty five years ago, they came to this
village and purchased the pleasant residence which has since been
the family home. Mrs. Hungerford was a woman of intelligence and
culture with whom it was a pleasure to converse and her interest in
public affairs continued active until her death. She possessed a
large circle of friends who loved her for her many womanly virtues
and who will regret her death, although in the fullness of years.
Mrs. Hungerford is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Geo L. Napier and
Miss Maroa N. Hungerford, both of this village. She also leaves one
sister, Mrs. Louisa Allen, of Geneva, Ohio.
