Mrs. Merton Locke

"Mernie Smith Locke, oldest daughter of A. E. and Emma Groff Smith, was born at McKinstry Hollow, town of Yorkshire, on June 14, 1896, and died in Buffalo on April 16, 1923.
Her life was spent at McKinstry and Delevan at which places she received her education; graduating from the Delevan high school in June, 1914, and from the Teachers Training Class in 1915.
Since that time she has been engaged in teaching, having taught for the past 2 1/2 years in the 5th and 6th grades of the Delevan High School.
On July 12, 1922, she was united in marriage at Hamburg to Merton Locke of Delevan.  Her funeral was held on April 19th at the home of her parents at McKinstry, Rev. J. Segwalt of the Delevan M. E. Church officiating; reading for their comfort the 23rd Ps. and the 14th chapter of John and preaching from a few selected words. Ruth Cutting and Mrs. Ray Canfield sweetly sang "Beckoning Hands" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
Friends from far and near come to sympathize with the bereaved family; and the profusion of beautiful flowers wreathed about her told how she was loved by all who knew her.
The faculty of the Delevan high school attended the funeral in a body and the pupils whom she taught gathered around the grave to bid their teacher the last goodnight.
She leaves her husband, father, mother, one brother, Merton and one sister, Millon Smith besides many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

Lonely is our home today
For one we loved has passed away.
No one knows how much we miss her.
No one knows what bitter paid
We have suffered since we lost her.
Home can never be the same."

Hugh was possessed with a personal friendliness that made a large place for all with whom he associated. A cherry optimism that refused to be daunted by any sort of discouragement.

There is no death, the starts go down

To shine forever more.

Mrs. Mary E. Thompsett

"Mrs. Mary E. Thompsett, wife of Robert W. Thompsett, president of the village of Delevan, died on Monday evening, June 6th, 1921, after a lingering and painful illness, which she bore with great fortitude and submission. For more than a week preceding her departure those who were near and dear to her went in and out in the presence of death angel till her soul left the disease-racked boy for the spirit world.
She was born in Rahway, N. J., on July 1, 1860, and at the time of her death was nearly sixty-one years old. Her people moved to Buffalo when she was a tiny girl, then to East Aurora, where they remained two years, and finally, when she was sixteen, settled at Yorkshire Corners, N. Y.
On July 1, 1879, she was married to Robert W. Thompsett of Delevan, where she has since resided. The deceased is survived by her husband, their two sons, Robert R. and Glenn W. of Delevan; one sister, Mrs. Ada Furman of Warsaw, two brothers, Charles H. Fields on Warsaw, and George Fields on Alaska, and one grandson, Robert E., three years and eight months old, of whom she was exceedingly fond.
She was converted to God thirty-seven years ago, during the pastorate of Thomas S. Green, and became identified with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Delevan, of which she was a member at the time of her death.
She was a very conscientious woman and has very positive convictions concerning right and wrong. She was an artist of considerable ability and the home contains many beautiful paintings reminding those who are left of the way in which many of her spare moments were occupied. She was a devoted wife and mother, full of the homely duties that come to all housekeepers and home-makers. She has gone to her reward and her works do follow her.
The funeral was held at the home on Thursday afternoon at 1:30. The service was in charge of her pastor, Rev. John Segwalt, whose remarks were based on Rev. XXI, 4, 'God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.' The remains were laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Delevan, N. Y.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fields, Mrs. Ada Firman, Floyd Firman, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Firman, Roy Firman and Miss Ada Firman of Warsaw, Mr. and Mrs. Dana Shedd, Dr. D. B. Shedd, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Benard, Bernice Benard and Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Meyers, of Arcade; Mrs. Francis Fallen, of Bliss, Mrs. Geo. Fields, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fields and Mrs. A. Bauss, of Buffalo; Mrs. G. Chilcott, of Orchard Park; Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Waterman, of Attica; Mrs. A. Bull, of Sandusky; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Edwards, of Erie, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. James Edwards of Gowanda."

Mr. and Mrs. Z. B. Hall

"On Thursday evening about 65 friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Z. B. Hall gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilson of Mesonville to celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Hall are 77 years old and in fairly good health.  The evening was spent in playing games and visiting. A lunch of salad, sandwiches, donuts and sweet cider was served.  A collection was taken and presented to them as a token of esteem from their friends.  All report a fine time and hope Mr. and Mrs. Mall can enjoy many more anniversaries.
Mr. Hall was able to get enough youngsters ones together to dance an old fashioned square dance with him, and was young and spry as any of them."
